Installation - Windows
No special procedure is required for installation; just download pgopher.exe, pgopher.chm and slave.exe to an appropriate
directory. Only pgopher.exe
is essential; pgopher.chm
provides the on-line help and slave.exe
provides the Slave Editor.
If the cursor does not appear as a cross in the main window:
Try changing the cursor theme in the control panel. (The mouse icon in
the "classic" view and then select "pointers").
If the help file does not display correctly:
I am getting some reports of problems with the help file, pgopher.chm; it is in a
Microsoft
standard format but:
- On older Windows 95/98 machines you may need to install the HTML
help component
from Microsoft (currently here).
- For Windows 2000/XP recent (June 2005) changes have meant that
.chm
files may
not display
correctly under some circumstances. The problems are minimized if the
help file is on a local drive (rather than a mapped drive), or you may
have to apply the fixes suggested in one or more of the following
Microsoft knowledgebase articles:
- KB902225 if the
help file does not open at all
- KB896054
if the help file opens, but displays the index but no contents
- KB896905
