Constants Window

This window allows setting of individual parameters and other options, and is used to control which parameters are floated during the fitting process. To display this window select View, Constants... from the main window. Values can be entered by typing, or adjusted with the mouse.

Top Panel Items

ActiveObject Object selector, allowing you to select the object to be edited. The format is <type of object>:<name of object>
FixAllButton Fix all parameters, i.e. set float = "no" for all parameters for all objects in this window.
ConvertUnitsButton Cycle through available units (cm-1, nm,  MHz, Kelvin and eV), converting parameter values in all the objects as appropriate each time. To convert the interpretation of the parameters without changing the actual values set Units in the Mixture object (Settings) instead.
CommentPanel This shows and allows you to add a comment on current item. The comment is not used elsewhere and there is no limit on the comment length

Tree View

This shows the objects being edited; click on an object to select it TreeViewfor editing. Right clicking (or Shift+F10) on an object brings up a pop-up menu which allows you to copy, paste delete, move and add objects. To add objects either:
  1. Right-click on the object above where you want to are add to in the tree view and select "Add new...", and then select the object required. Only objects that can be inserted at that point in the tree will be displayed.
  2. Right click on a similar entry and select "copy", then right click where you want the new object to be and select "paste". This is often easier than adding a completely new object as the values of the parameters and settings will be copied to the new object. Note that it is possible to copy and paste between independent copies of PGOPHER should you want to use an object from a completely different file as a starting point

Parameter Grid

 ParGridThis allows you to edit individual parameter values. To edit a value, click on the cell or use the F2 key. For help on the current cell hit F1. The "Increment" column is the increment used for calculating numerical derivatives while fitting. If left blank (the default) or 0.0001 of the initial value is used. A value of the order of the standard deviation in the parameter is often helpful in stabilizing an otherwise problematic fit. The StdDev is the standard deviation of the parameter from the most recent fit.

Right clicking on the grid gives a menu with the following items (other items show for selected objects):
Clear Reset selected cells to their default value
Turn on Mouse Adjust
Toggle adjustment of values with mouse wheel - see below
Abort Mouse Adjust Revert to value before mouse adjustment
Convert to Perturbation Convert selected parameters to the equivalent perturbation within the state.
Matrix Elements Show symbolic matrix elements for given parameter in the log window, if available.
Show Full Name Show full parameter name (useful for specifying constraints while fitting)

Adjusting Parameters with the Mouse

As well as typing values in the parameter grid interactive adjustment of parameters with the mouse wheel is also possible. To do this, right click on the Parameter and select "Turn on Mouse Adjust" (or press F3). The mouse wheel will then scale the current parameter (shown in bold to indicate the wheel adjustment is active) up or down for each click of the wheel. The default is a scaling factor of 1.01, though if the "Increment" field is set for a parameter, this value is added or subtracted instead. To turn off the mouse adjustment right click on the parameter and select "Turn off Mouse Adjust" (or press F3). Also available is "Abort Mouse Adjust" (or the escape key) which turns off adjustment, and reverts the current parameter to the value it had before starting mouse adjustment.

Settings

OptGridThis allows you to edit individual settings. To edit a value click on the cell or use the F2 key. For help on the current (highlighted) cell hit F1.
